Marginal external costs

In the article about the Belgian Railways I’ve mentioned the marginal external costs for passenger transport. This graphics, taken from the MIRA – Milieurapport Vlaanderen, illustrates what I referred to. All modes of transport cost the society money for every driven kilometer. The bike (‘fiets’ in Flemish) is, not surprisingly, the only transport mode that gains money. One thing to keep in mind when you decide to start that engine, especially the one from your motorbike,  again…
