In the article about the Belgian Railways I’ve mentioned the marginal external costs for passenger transport. This graphics, taken from the MIRA – Milieurapport Vlaanderen, illustrates what I referred to. All modes of transport cost the society money for every driven kilometer. The bike (‘fiets’ in Flemish) is, not surprisingly, the only transport mode that gains money.
